South Korea manager reveals Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-min will play against Uruguay
Paulo Bento, the head coach of South Korea, has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-min will play against Uruguay. The Taeguk Warriors take on the South American nation on Thursday (24 November) at the Education City Stadium.
The team led by the Portuguese manager will play their first game at the World Cup in Qatar against La Celeste. Ghana and Portugal are also in Group H alongside the two aforementioned nations.
Speaking to the media via The Sun, Bento assured that the Spurs forward would take part in South Korea’s opener against Uruguay. However, he will be wearing a black mask from the start of the fixture.
“Sonny will play. Wearing a mask is not an inconvenience for him.
“Our hope is that he will feel comfortable to the greatest extent possible. We will use the best strategy so he can feel at ease during the game. But he knows and we know that after this injury we can’t rule out some risk.”
Son suffered multiple fractures around his left eye at the start of November. The South Korean suffered the injury against Olympique Marseille in the North London side’s final group-stage game of the Champions League.
Fortunately, we ended up winning 2-1 against the Ligue 1 outfit at the Orange Velodrome. The 30-year-old had to be taken off at the half-hour mark, but the Lilywhites secured their place in the round of 16, where they will face AC Milan.
Son signed for Tottenham in the summer of 2015 from Bayer Leverkusen and has been one of our best players over the years. His partnership with Harry Kane in the last few campaigns has thrived.
In the previous campaign, while the England international struggled to find form, it was the South Korean who led Spurs’ front line. And the 30-year-old ended up having an impressive season, bagging the Premier League Golden Boot.
Unfortunately, Son has had a dip in form in the current campaign. Hopefully, the forward has a decent World Cup with South Korea and returns to North London in high spirits. He could evidently prove to be essential in our fight for the top-four spot.
