Oliver Neuville thinks Tottenham target Marcus Thuram may not stay at Borussia Monchengladbach beyond this season

Speaking in an interview with Radio Sportiva as quoted by Chronicle Live, Borussia Monchengladbach assistant manager Oliver Neuville admits that the German club will struggle to keep Tottenham Hotspur Marcus Thuram beyond this season.

Marcus Thuram, the French striker has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur. However, Spurs are not the only club interested in acquiring the services of the French attacking talent.

Newcastle United and Manchester United are also said to be keen on signing the player with the former being linked with a move for Thuram for more than a year now but it has not materialised yet.

The French international is expected to join a new club on a free transfer with his current contract set to expire in the summer of 2023 (Transfermarkt) but he could move in January if some team strikes a deal with the German club.

Marcus Thuram to Tottenham?

Monchengladbach could be looking to agree to a deal for the 25-year-old French striker as they would lose him for free come the summer, and selling him now will enable them to get some cash if Thuram doesn’t decide to renew his deal.

Neuville has claimed now that Inter Milan were interested in the player a couple of seasons ago but he expects a number of offers for him from Spain and England if he continues in the same vein.

In 17 games for the club this season across all competitions, the 25-year-old has scored 13 goals and provided four assists. It’s these kinds of numbers that are really catching the eye of clubs.

Speaking about the player, here is what Neuville had to say about his future and what he expects of Thuram.

“He has a contract until the end of the season and I think it will be difficult for him to stay at Borussia Monchengladbach.”

“Obviously I hope so, but we have to be realistic: if he continues like this he will have many offers especially from England and Spain and if he continues like this there is little hope he will stay”

Thuram will be a solid acquisition for Tottenham, especially due to the Frenchman’s ability to play anywhere across the front line. Let’s hope we are able to land him, either on a free transfer in the summer or a bargain deal in the summer.
