William Gallas compares Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane to Karim Benzema
Former Tottenham Hotspur defender William Gallas, while speaking to Football London, spoke about the club’s leading goal scorer Harry Kane and compared him to Ballon d’Or winner and Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema.
Kane, especially under Antonio Conte, has earned rave reviews over the manner in which he has developed his game of just not being a goal scorer and coming into the midfield to influence the game further.
Gallas, while dwelling praise on Kane’s ability to do that, believes the striker does not physically look the same as the past years and it is something that Conte needs to look at.
“Karim Benzema was doing exactly what Kane is now. It’s difficult for defenders to deal with when the striker goes to the middle of the pitch and Tottenham only have two solutions; either they tell Harry Kane to stay forward but if you do that then you need a player to be in the middle that can create chances in the game and I don’t know if they have that player.
Kane doesn’t look the same physically anymore and that’s why he drops deeper and Antonio Conte needs to solve that problem.”
Kane has been the talisman that every manager loves to work with and his staying at Spurs was one of the most significant factors in convincing Conte to put pen to paper.
In 408 appearances so far for the club, he has contributed to an impressive 261 goals and 62 assists. He is far from done and will only add to the tally in the coming seasons.
There is no doubt that Kane is one of the best number nine in the world currently and any top team would love to have the Englishman lead their team from the front.
Hence, we, the Spurs supporters should be thankful that Harry Kane plays for our club and has not created any major issues over contractual talks or seeking a transfer away, in spite of the few opportunities to win major trophies at the club.
However, it is indeed an increasing pattern recently which sees Kane dropping deep and helping in the transition from defence to attack which is curbing away from the traditional manner in which a striker is deployed.
