Spurs Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur keen to strengthen in these two key areas this January

Tottenham Hotpsur are apparently looking to sign at least two players in the upcoming January transfer window, as per Football.London.

The Lilywhites want to add a creative attacking playmaker to their roster as well as a defender. This makes complete sense.

Spurs lack that profile of a number 10 under manager Antonio Conte – someone in the ilk of Christian Eriksen during his days at N17 or Dele Alli in his prime. James Maddison is one player that has been linked with us.

As for defenders, Ben Davies has deputised as a left-sided centre-half for too long now. He has done well but having a natural centre-back in that position is an obvious advantage when it comes to the defensive side of things.

Spurs fans would have heard Josko Gvardiol and Alessandro Bastoni’s names being thrown around in the summer. They are two of European football’s top defenders and would instantly boost our defence if signed.

The news of Spurs wanting to strengthen in these two key positions comes amidst talks of Conte’s potential extension at N17. Hopefully, this appeases him to an extent that he commits to staying at N17 for a while.

These are definitely the two areas most Spurs fans would point to when asked where they would want the team to strengthen. A successor to veteran goalkeeper and our skipper Hugo Lloris is needed.

But he can do the job for now. A goalkeeper with two consecutive FIFA World Cup appearances can surely hold his own for a while longer.
