Tottenham Hotspur ‘politely decline’ Portsmouth’s request for FA Cup tickets

Spurs ‘have politely declined’ Portsmouth’s request for more tickets ahead of their FA Cup tie on 7 January at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Lilywhites have been drawn to take on Pompey, which is a straightforward tie on paper – one Spurs fans will expect their team to win. Portsmouth are currently playing in League One and are eighth in the league table with 29 points from 18 games.

The tie, being at N17, makes it easier for Tottenham considering the backing of home fans. But Portsmouth are counting on their traveling fans to make the difference for them.

They have apparently sold 8,880 tickets and requested Tottenham to increase that amount. The Lilywhites have apparently declined the request, as per an official statement from the southern England club (h/t Football.London):

“Following the sale of all 8,880 tickets for Pompey’s Emirates FA Cup third round tie in the new year, the club contacted Tottenham Hotspur to enquire whether an extra allocation could be provided.”

“This request was politely turned down by our hosts, with tickets also selling well among Spurs fans.”

Portsmouth won the FA Cup in the 2007-08 season after beating Cardiff City in the final by a 1-0 margin. SInce then, the club have been on a steep downhill and are currently in the third tier of English football.

Hopefully, Spurs fans will also flood the stadium against Portsmouth and help the team get over the line. It will be a chance for manager Antonio Conte to give some minutes to the younger players.

But it will also be a tie we cannot take lightly, which is why it was wise for Spurs to not lose the competitive edge and let Portsmouth have more tickets. We can use every advantage we can get in each game this season considering our desperate need for any sort of silverware.
