Tottenham Hotspur urged to make move for Argentina’s Aleixis Mac Allister

Argentina and Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur recently, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes (h/t Mirror).

The 23-year-old has made a huge name for himself with the Seagulls, especially after being handed a big role in Brighton’s midfield following Yves Bissouma’s summer transfer to Spurs. He has scored five league goals in 14 games so far this season.

His form saw him make the 26-man Argentina squad, for whom he has featured in five games in Qatar so far. He even scored a goal and has made the starting XI in the 2022 FIFA World Cup final against France.

Spurs have now been backed to make a move for the former Argentinos playmaker by ex-Leeds United striker Noel Whelan. He exclusively told Football Insider:

“Look at the money they’ve already made with Cucurella and Bissouma – you’d have to say that Mac Allister is next. He could come back as a World Cup winner. He’s handled the Premier League pressure, he’s handled the Argentina pressure…

“…I can see him fitting into Antonio Conte’s style at Tottenham too. He’s very aggressive, gets into good areas, and comes up with goals as well. He’d be a massive plus for most Premier League sides.

Playing for Argentina at the World Cup is no joke. As Whelan pointed out, Brighton have done shrewd business for Bissouma and Marc Cucurella.

Playing in Qatar could skyrocket the player’s stocks and the demand for his services. Hence, Tottenham have to be careful not to get sucked into paying a big fee for him.

His current deal expires in the summer of 2025 (Transfermarkt), which means Brighton will have a certain bit of control over his potential destination. We lack a player of Mac Allister’s ilk – a playmaker who can also play out wide – and if the finances align, this would be an ideal signing for manager Antonio Conte.
