Tottenham Hotspur priced out of a move for Manchester City target Josko Gvardiol

As per Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor, via GiveMeSport (h/t Manchester Evening News), Tottenham Hotspur cannot compete with Manchester City’s financial might if it comes down to a bidding war for Josko Gvardiol.

The Croatia international joined RB Leipzig in the summer of 2021 from Dinamo Zagreb at a time when they needed to replace the outgoing Ibrahima Konate and Dayot Upamecano.

Within a year and a half, he has made himself into one of the very best young centre-backs in European football. His hype has increased manifold times since the end of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

He was at the heart of manager Zlatko Dalic’s defence which inspired the Croatians to reach the semi-finals of the showpiece event in Qatar. Still just 20, it is scary how much potential Gvardiol currently possesses.

Gvardiol to Spurs?

Spurs have been linked with a move for him recently, as have Manchester United and Manchester City. The two Manchester teams have apparently made big offers for the Leipzig star as well.

While Man City are said to have lodged an offer of £85million, Man United have also seemingly green-lighted spending around  £77-82million for his services. Spurs, according to Taylor, cannot compete with this.

Gvardiol can certainly prove to be worth this amount considering his age and how he can lead a team’s backline for several years down the line. But if it falls outside of Tottenham’s financial scope, then its best to scour the market for other options.

City and United will certainly drive the price even higher if there is a bidding war. Spurs, meanwhile, have right-wing-back, attacking midfield, and goalkeeper as positions they can do with strengthening in the immediate future.
