Brentford confirm Pontus Jansson and Christian Norgaard are back for Tottenham Hotspur clash

Brentford manager Thomas Frank has confirmed that Pontus Jansson and Christian Norgaard are fit and available for selection against Tottenham Hotspur for their Boxing Day Premier League clash.

The two London-based teams go head-to-head in what is expected to be a feisty return to competitive club football action after a lengthy 2022 FIFA World Cup break. Spurs sit fourth in the table while Brentford are 10th after 15 games each.

Jansson, who signed for the Bees from Leeds United in the summer of 2019, has featured in just six league games this season. But the domineering 31-year-old Sweden international is expected to return against Spurs.

So is Norgaard. The 28-year-old bullish Denmark international has only been able to play in just five league games this campaign.

He adds considerable steel to their midfield and excels at shielding his team’s centre-backs. Speaking ahead of the London derby against the Lilywhites, Frank said (h/t official Brentford website):

“Pontus is available for selection. Aaron Hickey and Kristoffer Ajer are close, but not close enough yet, but they’re really progressing. Thomas Strakosha is also very close. They were the four main guys who were out before the break.”

“The energy and confidence from that Manchester City win is still there, and we have Christian Norgaard back fit to start and Pontus Jansson, Aaron Hickey, and Kristoffer Ajer are all in good places. That is all a positive.”

So no Krisoffer Ajer, Thomas Strakosha and Aaron Hickey… that would at least make things a bit even for us considering Richarlison, Cristian Romero, Hugo Lloris, and Rodrigo Bentancur have been ruled out for the game later today.

Norgaard and Jansson or not, we can’t take Brentford lightly. They have lost just four times in the Premier League this season and would at least play for a point at the Gtech Community Stadium.

More Tottenham Hotspur News:

We haven’t lost to Brentford across competitions for more than 74 years. Such statistics can only build up anxiety amongst fans who would be hoping that manager Antonio Conte selects a very strong team and does not take this game lightly at all.
