Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Manchester United on red alert by Jordan Pickford’s Everton contract situation

Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, and Manchester United, have been alerted by Jordan Pickford’s contract situation at Everton, as per the Daily Mail.

The England international agreed a five-year deal with the club before heading out to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. But the Toffees are yet to sign off on it for reasons unknown.

The player is apparently open to the renewal, but there is a delay in action from Everton. This peculiar situation would alert Pickford’s suitors, of which Tottenham are one.

Pickford has shown over the past few seasons that he can be a first-choice goalkeeper for a top, top team. He has been one of the Toffees’ best players despite their underwhelming performances in the Premier League in the past several years.

Spurs should be quick

He is a solid, agile shot-stopper who bosses his box with confidence and vigour. At the age of 28, and considering the longer shelf-life of goalkeepers, he is also of an ideal age profile to sign.

That is especially the case considering Hugo Lloris’ age and contract situation. The France captain is set to enter the final 18 months of his contract and is already 36 years old.

His performances have not convinced many that he is the man to be our No. 1 choice between the sticks for long. Given his age, it is imperative that we have a plan in place when it comes to finding a replacement.

Chelsea currently have Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy in the prime of their careers while Manchester United have Dean Henderson and David de Gea for now. Spurs could, hence, promise him immediate playing time without much competition for starts.
