Rodrigo Bentancur could be available for Tottenham Hotspur against Aston Villa
According to Birmingham Mail, Tottenham Hotspur and Antonio Conte could receive a major boost ahead of their clash against Aston Villa on Sunday (January 1) with Rodrigo Bentancur likely to be available for selection.
The 25-year-old Uruguayan international suffered a small tear to his adductor muscle in his right leg against Ghana, during his team’s final group-stage game at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar earlier this month.
Such injury left the midfielder on the sidelines, but he is now expected to be back for selection having missed out on his side’s 2-2 draw against Brentford earlier this week.
Bentancur’s potential availability will serve as a major boost to Conte. Yves Bissouma started the game in the Uruguayan’s place last time out and while he was decent in the middle of the park, the 25-year-old would have been better.
The former Juventus man has been phenomenal for us in the midfield and has struck up a formidable bond with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the middle of the park. Both the midfielders have been Conte’s go-to choice this season and the club has struggled when either of them are missing.
It was a really disappointing performance for the north London side last time out. The Bees were a better side than us and we bought the fight very late. Fans will hope that this is not the case again when we host Villa on New Year’s Day.
Ben Davies is also likely to start against the Midland-based club, after coming on for Clement Lenglet against the Bees. The 29-year-old was also injured and recently recovered from it, and only managed to play the last few minutes of the game.
