Transfer News: Sporting Lisbon will sell Pedro Porro only if his release clause is met amid Tottenham Hotspur interest
Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim has insisted that Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Pedro Porro will only be allowed to leave in January if his release clause is met.
The 23-year-old has a release clause of €45 million in his current contract and has gained huge interest from the north London side. Antonio Conte is believed to be wanting a new right-back when the market reopens next month.
Emerson Royal has not lived up to the standards expected from him, lacking the final touch in the final third and also has committed some silly mistakes at the back. Other right-backs like Matt Doherty and Djed Spence have simply struggled for game-time this season.
Porro has been impressive for his side this season. The 23-year-old has featured in 20 games for them in all competitions, registering nine assists in the process. However, the Sporting manager has made his side’s intention clear.
Speaking at a press conference as quoted in the Metro, Amorim made it clear that the 23-year-old will only be allowed to leave if his release clause is triggered by a club.
“With regard to Pedro Porro, we know that there are players in our team who, because of what they have done, are now wanted by other clubs. What I was told is that he can only leave if the clause is triggered.”
“And if the clause is triggered, there is nothing we can do. We are prepared for anything and we know that there are clubs who can pay the clause. But, until that happens, I think Pedro is safe.”
Conte saw the Spaniard impress when both the sides met in the group-stage games of the Champions League. The 23-year-old was pretty impressive in both the games against us, especially during their 2-0 win over us in September.
The right-back has impressed this season and paying his release clause is something that the north London club should consider. It is not a very huge amount and the Lilywhites should not face any financial problems, should they trigger it.
