Tottenham Hotspur told to move for Jordan Pickford and Harry Maguire after Aston Villa loss
Jamie O’Hara has told Tottenham Hotspur to move for Harry Maguire and Jordan Pickford after a loss against Aston Villa.
Hugo Lloris made a costly error for the first goal where he spilled a shot straight into the danger zone, leading to Vitaly Janelt’s opener. Lloris, deep into his 30s, has drawn a lot of criticism for his error-prone goalkeeping recently.
He was similarly poor in our loss against Newcastle United earlier this season. Now, former Spurs midfielder O’Hara has backed the Lilywhites to go out and get Everton goalkeeper Pickford.
He exclusively told talkSPORT:
“We need a replacement for Lloris. He’s been a great servant to the football club but he does make too many mistakes. I think eventually we are going to have to replace him. Jordan Pickford, absolutely. Give me Pickford now.”
He is yet to renew his contract with the Toffees despite agreeing to extend it for a long duration. Everton have still not signed off on it, and Tottenham Hotspur have been touted as a potential destinanion for him.
He also told them to go out and get Maguire, who has fallen down the pecking order under manager Erik ten Hag. Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane are the preferred pairing, while Ten Hag recently started Luke Shaw at centre-back despite having Maguire on the bench.
O’Hara added:
“Harry Maguire is better than what we’ve got. He’s not playing at Manchester United. If a left-back is playing at centre-half and you’re not featuring, then Maguire has got to be looking at saying ‘I want out’.”
“[Lisandro] Martinez is going to come back from the World Cup with Argentina, so Harry Maguire is going to go even further down the pecking order. Maguire has got to look to get out of there. I would have him at Tottenham, absolutely, definitely.”

If we can sign Maguire from Manchester United, then it wouldn’t be a bad option. We play in a three-at-the-back system where he can slot alongside Eric Dier and Cristian Romero. It also isn’t wrong to suggest that he could be an instant upgrade on all our centre-back options apart from the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner.
