Gabby Agbonlahor believes Tottenham Hotspur should sell Emerson Royal
Former Aston Villa forward Gabby Agbonlahor believes Tottenham Hotspur should sell right-back Emerson Royal. The Brazilian has been a regular this season, although that seems to have changed.
Matt Doherty seems to have found his form and has now reclaimed his position, something that Emerson took away from him when he moved to north London in 2021 from Barcelona.
The Republic of Ireland international was excellent against Crystal Palace last time out and even got on the scoresheet when he beautifully curled a left-foot finish from inside the box to score his side’s third goal in a 4-0 rout.

Doherty has been looking confident on the pitch and this has seen Emerson get relegated to the bench. Now, while speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Agbonlahor lashed into the 23-year-old and claimed he is not “good enough”.
“If he’s Brazillian, I’m Spanish. He’s technically dreadful, awful on the ball. That’s why he was nowhere near the World Cup squad, and Dani Alves at 39 was picked instead. He’s not good enough. He’s calamitous and he needs to be shipped out.”
In November, Football. London had carried out a report in which it was claimed that Serie A side Inter Milan were interested in the Brazilian right-back. It was also claimed that Antonio Conte would be open to allowing the player to leave.
Since joining us, the 23-year-old has been ridiculed by both the fans and pundits alike for his poor performances on the pitch. While he has had his moments, he has shown that he is far from capable to start every game for a club like ours.
Tottenham, on the other hand, have been linked with a move for Inter right-back Denzel Dumfries. The 26-year-old has been exceptional this season and would make an instant upgrade to all our right-backs, should he join us.

It remains to be seen if the north London side do entertain any offers for the Brazilian. It will be wise for the 23-year-old to look to impress whenever he is given an opportunity. Failing to do so could see him nearing his Tottenham days.
