Tottenham have earmarked Gian Piero Gasperini as Antonio Conte replacement
According to Italian outlet CalcioMercatoWeb (h/t Football. London), Tottenham have earmarked Atlanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini as the ideal replacement if Antonio Conte were to leave the North London club.
Fabio Paratici has apparently been lining up alternatives in case the Italian tactician were to leave his job and he has decided on the talented Atlanta boss as the perfect person to lead this project forward.
Gasperini has received a lot of plaudits for the work he has done with Atlanta in recent times. His project might have fallen off a tad bit in recent times but their exceptional Champions League campaign in 2020 will not be forgotten.
Paratici will know Gasperini all too well from his time in Italy. The sporting director has shown with his signing for Tottenham that he really knows Italian football in and out and he thinks Gasperini is the right man to lead the Lilywhites if not for Conte.
There is no necessity or compulsion that Conte is set to leave. However, the Italian manager has received a bit of criticism for the side’s performances in recent games although he has made them bounce back.
Tottenham are working on extending Antonio Conte’s contract extension and would love to keep the Italian at the club. However, Conte has shown in the past that he sometimes leaves projects midway.
If Conte does leave the club, then we need the perfect person to lead the project forward. Gasperini’s side play far more attacking football than Conte’s team does and he could be the man to lead us forward.
There would be other options as well. Someone like Thomas Tuchel if he does come here will completely change the identity of this team and there will be no resemblance to the one that Conte has built.

It remains to be seen if Conte extends his stay. If he leaves though, we have a few options. Ideally, we must be looking at some sort of continuity and let’s see who can be that person.
