Tottenham Hotspur defender Emerson Royal responds to recent criticism
Speaking to Football. London, Tottenham Hotspur defender Emerson Royal has responded to the recent criticism he has been receiving from fans and vowed that he is trying to improve every day.
The Brazilian full-back has had a torrid time in a Spurs shirt recently. He has lost the starting berth to Matt Doherty and has been booed by a section of Tottenham fans when he has been brought on ahead of Djed Spence.
Emerson joined Tottenham from Barcelona last summer. His lack of attacking output has really frustrated Spurs fans. After being an exciting defender in La Liga for a long-time, the Brazilian is finding life difficult in the Premier League.
The fact that Emerson is not really having a great time in the Premier League coupled with the fact that his presence is preventing the exciting summer signing Djed Spence from getting game time has made the Spurs fan turn against him.
The 24-year-old Brazilian was visibly disconsolate after being booed by his own fans and had to be consoled by Antonio Conte and his coaching staff as he walked back into the technical area.
Speaking to Football. London, Emerson vowed that he was putting in a lot of effort and that he was trying to improve.
“It’s not up to me to say whether the crowd’s opinion is fair or not. I prefer to dedicate myself 100% to what I can do”
“I never stopped making an effort, trying to help my team-mates and managing to sustain the happiness I have and put it on the field. I always try to do that”
Regardless of how much ever we criticize him and what we see on the pitch, Antonio Conte has been giving the Brazilian a long rope. The generally fickle manager has been persistent that Emerson will come good.
He would not have given the Brazilian so many chances if he didn’t see something in him that we are currently missing. Yet, if the Italian decides to move on, then Emerson might be sold this window.
