Ben Jacobs talks about Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Milan Skriniar
Speaking to Last Word on Spurs, CBS journalist Ben Jacobs has talked about Tottenham Hotspur’s chances of signing talented Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar.
Skriniar’s future in Milan has come under discussion quite a few times. The defender’s contract expires in the summer (Transfermarkt) and the Slovakian is yet to commit his future to the Italian giants.
PSG’s interest in Skiriniar is one of the worst-kept transfer secrets in football. They are still considered front-runners for the 27-year-old centre-back in the summer but Tottenham are real competitors.
Antonio Conte’s side are said to be interested in both Alessandro Bastoni and Skriniar from Inter Milan with the latter being the more likely one to leave the club due to his contract situation.
Speaking about the player’s future, here is what Jacobs had to say about Tottenham’s pursuit of Skriniar.
“Then you move into the Milan Skriniar territory and maybe the good news for Tottenham, because they like both him and [Alessandro] Bastoni is that Inter [Milan] might have to sell. Even thought PSG were frontrunners all through the summer, they’ve never really managed to get a deal”
Even though he did give Tottenham a boost, Jacobs did place a caveat saying that Skriniar can be an option for the Lilywhites only if Conte’s men manage to secure Champions League qualification for next season.
“But I don’t think Tottenham would be able to move for Skriniar unless they qualify for the Champions League”
Skriniar is 27 years old and has a bonafide Serie A pedigree. He has been one of the best centre-backs in Serie A for quite some time now. His quality is undoubted and getting him for free would be an absolute steal.
It is understandable that the Slovakian will want to compete at the highest level and will want to move to a club that plays Champions League football. Tottenham will know that this is the case for most of their transfer targets if they aspire for big signings.
