The reason why Tottenham Hotspur signing Jude Soonsup-Bell left Chelsea
Evening Standard have explained the reason behind striker Jude Soonsup-Bell making a swift change from Chelsea to Tottenham Hotspur on the January transfer deadline day.
In a piece of news that went under the radar, Soonsup-Bell, who joined Chelsea when he was 12 years ago chose to move to the club’s direct rivals Spurs.
It is claimed that the forward joined Spurs after failing to be convinced of his path to first-team at Stamford Bridge and feeling the project offered by Spurs for his development was more suited to his needs.
After the completion of the transfer, he will join the U-21 team for the rest of the season before potentially going out on loan in the coming season to bolster his development.
Spurs should be given credit for bringing a change in the philosophy of the club and more importance is being given to the development and acquisition of future stars who could potentially be part of the first team in the future.
The future surrounding Harry Kane is uncertain for the time being and there is no clarity on the path he chooses to take once his contract is near completion.
Hence, it is important to have talent from the Academy coming through in situations if Kane does end up leaving his boyhood club.
Dane Scarlett is another big talent coming out of the Academy and is currently on loan at Portsmouth. Alongside Soonsup-Bell , these two have the potential to do wonderful things for the Spurs.
But it is obvious that he may not be in our first-team plans straightaway given his age and inexperience. The club has had a decent January transfer window as compared to recent years and were able to secure their primary target, Pedro Porro.

At the same time, there were departures of Matt Doherty, Djed Spence and Bryan Gil on loan moves. These three players were not in Antonio Conte’s plans for the future and a decision like this suggests that the board and manager are working together.
This potentially signals a breakthrough in the Italian’s current contract situation and hopefully, the coming days would provide us with more clarity.
