Tottenham Hotspur could be targeting Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie in the summer transfer window
According to Fabrizio Romano (h/t Last Word on Spurs) via Twitter, Tottenham Hotspur are still interested in Bayer Leverkusen Piero Hincapie but see him as a target for the summer.
Hincapie has been on Spurs’ radar for quite some time now and is a player that Antonio Conte really appreciates.
A left-footed centre-back, he brings aggression to the back line and would be an astute partner for Cristian Romero if a deal indeed progresses. Moreover, he would be a natural replacement for Ben Davies at left centre-back, who has been deputising in that position for far too long.
Since the summer transfer window, Conte is keen to add a profile of a left-footed defender to fully implement his style of three at the back. At Inter Milan, he had the luxury of Alessandro Bastoni but has failed to find a player with similar ability since his arrival at Spurs.
Clement Lenglet was signed from FC Barcelona on a loan deal and he has not been able to convince many with his performances. It looks highly unlikely that the club would proceed with their option to take the Frenchman on a permanent deal once his loan ends.
Hence, summer could be very interesting for us and see us go all out in our search for a talented left-footed defender and Hincapie certainly fits the bill.
January transfer window are also way tougher to get the deals in place mainly due to the selling teams’ reluctance to sell in the middle of the season.

On the other hand, knowing Daniel Levy, it would have been a miracle to see him spend large amounts of money in the current window after signing Pedro Porro from Sporting CP. Hence, for now, the deal is not progressing and it is definitely something to keep an eye on in the summer transfer window.
