Journo says Tottenham Hotspur wanted to sell Davinson Sanchez last month

Davinson Sanchez could have been sold by Tottenham Hotspur last month as Spurs were interested in offloading the defender.

This is according to Football.London journalist Alasdair Gold, who said on his YouTube channel:

“In terms of potential deals that didn’t go through, I know that towards the end, Spurs were willing to let Lucas Moura and Davinson Sanchez go. That was more contract related. With Davinson Sanchez, he only has 18 months left on his contract.”

Sanchez will enter the final year of his deal at the end of the season if fresh terms aren’t agreed on before that. This could be a problem for Tottenham, who signed him for a mammoth fee of 42million Pounds in the summer of 2017.

The Colombia international isn’t being used enough to justify keeping him on board and run the risk of losing a quality player in his prime years for nothing. The 26-year-old has played just 836 minutes of senior football for us this term.

What next for Sanchez?

Cristian Romer, Eric Dier, and Ben Davies are all ahead of him in the pecking order. Selling Sanchez would have been a risky move considering he and Japhet Tanganga are our only natural backups in this area.

Gold highlights this point. He added:

“It would be difficult to find a guaranteed Premier League player to replace Sanchez. He makes mistakes… sometimes silly ones. But I also think he is far better than what people give him credit for.”

Sanchez isn’t bad per se. He just hasn’t shown anything to prove to manager Antonio Conte or the fans that he can be a trusted, regular starter who can be depended upon.

But it wouldn’t be a surprise if Spurs thought about trying to move him on in the summer once again. If they were open to selling him in January, perhaps they realise that this could be the last chance for them to properly cash in on him.
