Rio Ferdinand tells Harry Kane to leave Tottenham Hotspur if he wants trophies
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has urged Harry Kane to leave Tottenham Hotspur if he wants to add silverware to his trophy cabinet.
Despite winning a number of individual accolades in the past decade, Kane hasn’t won a single trophy for club and country. He is 29 and in the final 17 months of his contract at N17.
There isn’t a shadow of a doubt that top European clubs will be watching his situation if he doesn’t put pen to paper on fresh terms soon. Signing a player with 267 senior goals at his age would be a chance not many clubs would want to miss out on.
Ferdinand believes that Kane should jump ship and leave Tottenham if he wants to win trophies. The Lilywhites last lifted a title in 2008, when they won the EFL Cup.
The pundit said on his Vibe with Five Podcast (h/t Daily Mail):
“If he wants to win trophies I think he needs to leave Spurs and go to a team capable of winning – because I don’t see that happening at Spurs in the near future.”
He then questioned if Kane will be happy to end his career with overtaking Alan Shearer’s record tally of 260 league goals as his crowning achievement, but without any trophy.
“I want to hear Harry say it. Would you be happy to finish your career with no trophies but as the highest goalscorer in the Premier League’s history? If he says yeah, then that’s it. Argument done. Whatever we say is irrelevant.”
Ferdinand has a point. Strictly from Kane’s point of view, it is understandable if he wants to leave us for a team such as, say Bayern Munich. But then again, there is the sentimental value of being a one-club man and then the prospect of becoming an immortal in the Premier League by scoring 261 career goals.
It’s all down to Kane. Now a record goal-scorer for Tottenham, his status as Spurs’ greatest-ever player has a tangible numerical figure to complement it. Let’s see if he continues to be satisfied with just individual records here.

But the aim and the dream, of course, is for him to win trophies here. Nothing better than shutting up our critics by winning something this year or next.
