Tottenham Hotspur linked with a surprise move for Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita
Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.
This is according to 90min (h/t Liverpool Echo), who claim that the Guinea international is also attracting interest from Germany and France as he is now in the final five months of his contract at Anfield.
He is yet to sign a new contract and as per Fabrizio Romano, no advances talks have taken place over a new deal. Signed from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2018, Keita’s career at Liverpool has been hampered by injuries.
Those who have seen him in action would know that he is a very smooth dribbler who can beat players and create chances. This is a profile we could use in our midfield.
A brilliant option we cannot miss out on
Make no mistake, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur have been very good in a double pivot and have, with time, shown that they can also make contributions in the final third of the pitch.
But they are surely not as nimble and agile as Keita is on the ball. Signing him on a free transfer would be a low-risk-high-reward situation.
Either the player unlocks his potential – which he can if he stays fit for a regular period of time – or, we can offload and make money off of him in case he fails to meet expectations.
Of course, when clubs start lining up for players, then they would surely consider which team will offer them a better chance at first-team football. As of now, Spurs may not. But the 27-year-old can seriously be a very good third-choice option ahead of Yves Bissouma and Oliver Skipp.

We would be wise to sort out the permanent futures of loanees Harry Winks, Tanguy Ndombele, and Giovani Lo Celso. Even if we succeed to offload one of these permanently, then a move for Keita would make even more sense.
