Jose Mourinho and AS Roma seeking to land Tottenham Hotspur target Naby Keita
Former Tottenham boss and current Roma manager, Jose Mourinho, is looking to beat his former club to the signing of out-of-contract Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita in the summer, according to ASRomaLive.it
Tottenham have been linked with a move for the struggling Liverpool midfielder in recent days. Keita is expected to be a free agent in the summer and he would be a player who suits Spurs.
The Guinean international has struggled to find playing time this season and his contract with the Reds will expire in June. This has opened up a market opportunity for Roma and Mourinho, who are looking to reinforce their squad.
Mourinho, who has been in charge of Roma for a couple of seasons now has been busy working with the club’s sporting director, Tiago Pinto, to bring in reinforcements. Naby Keita fits the profile of the type of player that the Portuguese manager is looking for.
The midfielder arrived at Liverpool in 2018 for a fee of 60 million, but has struggled to find a regular place in Jurgen Klopp’s starting lineup. Injuries have really deterred his progression in Anfield.
The signing of Naby Keita could be a real boost for Tottenham, especially in the middle of the park, where they have been lacking quality and creativity. The existing options in our roster are merely functional and we could do with a creative presence.
Keita is a player with a lot of potential. It is just about unlocking that. Jurgen Klopp has not managed to do that and maybe Antonio Conte is the manager who can finally bring the best out of him provided he stays fit.
Signing Keita is something that would benefit Tottenham. However, it is also a signing that will benefit Roma and they will not make life easy for us as we try to convince Keita to come to N17 over Rome.
