Tottenham Hotspur loanee Harry Winks opens up on relationship with Antonio Conte
Harry Winks, the Tottenham Hotspur star who is currently playing for Sampdoria on loan, recently opened up about his relationship with his parent club’s manager Antonio Conte.
Winks stated that he and Conte still have a positive relationship, despite his loan move away from Tottenham. The midfielder emphasized that there was no ill will or bad blood involved in his move, but rather a desire to play regular football.
Winks, who has been a bit-part player for Sampdoria since joining them on loan, spoke highly of Conte’s tactics and ways of thinking. He highlighted the similarities between Conte’s style and the tactics used in Serie A, where Sampdoria play.
The England international stated that these similarities have helped him to settle in and adjust to the new environment with ease. Injuries did not help Winks as he took a long time to make his debut but he is playing regularly now.
Winks’ loan move to Sampdoria has provided him with the opportunity to play regular first-team football, something that he was not getting at Tottenham. He might not have been able to do that till now but things are changing for the good.
Speaking in an interview with Football Daily as quoted by Football. London, here is what Winks had to say about Conte.
“The manager I still get on really well. There was no animosity with the club leaving, it was just about me wanting to play football regularly. Lots of his tactics, lots of his ways of thinking, there’s lot of similarities out here and it has definitely served me well in that sense coming out here because I understand the way he likes to think”
“The way he likes to play is very similar to Serie A and it has definitely helped me since coming here to settle in and adjust to the style and tactics.”
Winks might not have a future at N17 but on his day, he can still be a good player. Let’s not forget that the midfielder was one of the hottest prospects in English football once upon a time.
At this point, it is very clear that Winks’ career has not really panned out that way. That does not mean however that he cannot still make a comeback. The Tottenham player has time on his side.
