Stellini says Tottenham Hotspur star Cristian Romero must learn to control his aggression
Tottenham assistant manager Cristian Stellini has spoken in the pre-match press conference as quoted by Football. London on the recent red card received by defender Cristian Romero during the match against Manchester City.
The young Argentine has been a crucial figure in Tottenham’s defence this season, and his sending-off was a big blow to the team. However, Stellini believes that this incident presents an opportunity for Romero to work on his game and control his aggression.
The assistant manager went on to say that the club will be working with Romero to help him improve his tackling and control his aggression. He stated,
“To not receive a yellow card, you have to arrive at the ball and use your tackle at the right time. So, we can work on the timing. He has to jump and tackle and try to win the ball. We will work on this aspect but keeping the same aggressiveness.”
It’s evident that Romero’s red card against Manchester City was a big disappointment, but the club is determined to help him improve his game. With the right guidance, he can use his aggression to his advantage and become one of the best defenders in the league.
The Argentinian World Cup winner is one of the best centre-backs in the league and he can get even better. He stands apart from the rest of the Tottenham defenders and is one of Conte’s most trusted generals.
However, this aggression has been something that has haunted Romero for quite some time now. Never one to shy away from the tackle, the former Atlanta man often gets into trouble for late challenges.
Thankfully for Tottenham, Romero would be out just for a solitary game. The importance of this cannot be stressed enough, as the club look to continue their push towards the top four of the Premier League.
With time, it is likely that Romero mellows down in terms of aggression. Whilst he must not give up on it completely, it is essential that it tapers down. Antonio Conte will be hoping to teach Romero to pick his moments.
