Cristian Stellini backs Tottenham Hotspur star Fraser Forster to step in for Hugo Lloris
Tottenham Hotspur has been dealt a blow with the injury of their first-choice goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, but assistant manager Cristian Stellini believes backup goalie Fraser Forster is up to the task.
Despite the absence of their captain and star goalkeeper, Stellini expressed his confidence in Forster, praising him not only for his abilities as a goalkeeper but also for his character as a person.
According to Stellini, Forster trains hard every day, pushing not only himself but also Lloris to train harder as well. In addition to his work ethic, Stellini highlighted Forster’s adaptability to the physical demands of the Premier League.
With Lloris out for a number of weeks, Forster will have the opportunity to showcase his skills and prove his worth to the team. Stellini expressed his trust in Forster, indicating that he is confident that the backup goalkeeper will step up and fill the gap left by Lloris.
It is clear that Stellini holds Forster in high regard, not only as a player but also as a person. This kind of confidence from the coaching staff can do wonders for a player’s confidence, and could potentially see Forster rise to the occasion.
Here is what Stellini had to say in the pre-match press conference as quoted by Football. London about the backup goalie and he backed the player to come good in Lloris’ absence.
“The difference between Hugo is we start to think physically he (Fraser) is a keeper perfect for the Premier League style, for the type of game we are going to play in the Premier League, he uses both feet when he plays with the ball. So, it will be interesting to see him for some weeks to play with us. We trust in him, we completely trust in him”
With a number of crucial fixtures coming up, Forster will have to be at his best if Tottenham wants to maintain their position in the league. The absence of Lloris will no doubt be felt, but to be very honest this could be a blessing in disguise.
Lloris has not been in the best of form this season and has not done enough to start week in week out for Tottenham. His position in the team has remained untouched more due to past credentials and not necessarily present form.
