Tottenham Hotspur star Rodrigo Bentancur sidelined with injury until season’s end
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has been ruled out with a cruciate ligament injury until the end of the season, as per the Guardian.
He was brought off in Spurs’ 4-1 loss against Leicester City this weekend. As if the scoreline and the defeat wasn’t bad enough, we are now arguably without one of our very best players until next season.
He could take six to seven months to recover. That effectively confirms he will not play a single game this season.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Bentancur have been two of manager Antonio Conte’s favourite players in the starting XI. The Uruguayan was sidelined for a couple of weeks after the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Big blow for Spurs
But this injury is clearly way more serious. The problem here is that Yves Bissouma has also been sidelined with a fitness issue and there isn’t a return date specified for him.
He has apparently undergone surgery on his ankle. Oliver Skipp and Pape Matar Sarr will now assume a big role for us in midfield.
Bentancur and Bissouma being injured just a few days away from each other is a huge, huge blow for our top-four chances. But then again, Skipp and Sarr are here for a reason.
This is their chance to be heroes. One thing is now looking certain – that we cannot afford to strain our midfield with three central midfielders in the starting XI.
