Tottenham Hotspur to battle Chelsea for Evan Ferguson
According to the Sun, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are both reportedly interested in signing Evan Ferguson, the 18-year-old striker who currently plays for Brighton.
With Harry Kane’s future at the club uncertain, it’s important that Tottenham start to look for potential long-term replacements for the England captain. Ferguson seems like a player who could fit the bill perfectly.
He’s young, he’s talented, and he’s already made a name for himself in the Premier League. It’s clear that the scouts at Tottenham have been keeping an eye on Ferguson for some time now and it has its merits.
The fact that he’s already a senior international for the Republic of Ireland is a testament to his skill and potential. Ferguson has already shown his quality in Roberto de Zerbi’s impressive system.
Of course, we’re not the only club interested in Ferguson. Chelsea are also said to be weighing up a move for the young striker. It’s no surprise that the Blues are interested, given that they were the club that signed Graham Potter, who was the manager of Brighton when Ferguson was signed.
If Kane was to leave though, Ferguson would be an ideal replacement for Tottenham. We took a similar punt with the Englishman all those years ago and we could take a similar gamble with the Brighton man.
There’s no doubt that Ferguson would face stiff competition if he were to join Tottenham. Assuming Kane is still there, he would have to compete with the Englishman and Richarlison for a striker berth.
Chelsea have more of a need for a natural number nine than Tottenham. This could prompt them to go that extra mile to sign him. We have also seen that the Blues are not hesitant to throw cash at a player they want.
