Cristian Romero gives verdict on Tottenham Hotspur star Rodrigo Bentancur’s injury
Rodrigo Bentancur picked up an ACL injury in Tottenham Hotspur’s 4-1 Premier League loss against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium earlier this month.
He has been ruled out for the entirety of the season as a result. Given how important he is to manager Antonio Conte’s team, this is a huge, huge blow for us.
Yves Bissouma’s recent injury issues have only made the situation worse. Cristian Romero and Bentancur have both played for Juventus in the past before moving to Spurs.
It is clear that the two have a close relationship off the pitch. Speaking in an interview, as published on the official club website, the Argentina international said:
“We all miss him a lot. It’s a big loss for the time being but we know the player that he is. Right now, it’s hard, but we’re looking forward to having him back and contributing for us again.
“We need to prepare well going forward but, in the meantime, we wish him a speedy recovery and that he’s back soon.”
Pape Matar Sarr and Oliver Skipp are still learning their trade. They aren’t really world-class just yet but we have no one else to rely on now alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
But we should have been prepared for such a situation. A midfielder in January would have really helped, but we play with the cards we are dealt.
Nevertheless, it should be a learning curve for Tottenham. Perhaps it would be smart to either offload Harry Winks and Giovani Lo Celso permanently and sign a world-class name in midfield or keep either one of them and hope they unfurl their potential.
