Alasdair Gold shares one thing Tottenham Hotspur coaches love about Oliver Skipp
Tottenham Hotspur expert and Football.London journalist Alasdair Gold has claimed that Oliver Skipp’s tactical intelligence on the field makes him a hit among Spurs coaches.
The 22-year-old is a product of the Lilywhites’ youth academy. He has been with us since 2013 and was loaned out to Norwich City in the 2020-21 season, where he really exploded onto the scene.
Skipp has made 65 senior appearances for us and is gradually becoming an important part of the first-team equation under manager Antonio Conte. Giovani Lo Celso, Harry Winks, and Tanguy Ndombele were all allowed to leave on loan last year.
But Skipp wasn’t. That clearly shows that Conte and his staff view him as a player who will be able to contribute to the senior team, albeit in a reduced role.
Speaking in a video on his YouTube channel, Gold said:
“The thing that the Spurs coaching staff love about him [Oliver Skipp] is how tactically intelligent he is. He is always reading the game and he is always looking at where there are gaps that he needs to cover.”
Skipp isn’t a player that will contribute with goals and assists on a regular basis – at least not right now. But he is a solid presence in central midfield when it comes to defending.
He isn’t afraid to stick a leg in and has a very good engine that allows him to cover every blade of the grass. He is truly a bane for Conte to have in his squad and will only get better with time.

He has been handed the chance to show his worth to the senior after injuries to Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur. It is only him and Pape Matar Sarr to partner Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg for now, which gives him the opportunity to prove to Conte that he is ready to take the step to become a first-team regular.
