Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez emerges as an option for Tottenham
According to Daily Mail, Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has emerged as a solid option for Tottenham Hotspur with the club willing to sell the player.
The 30-year-old shot-stopper has had an impressive season with Villa, helping them in their bid to have a resurgent season under Unai Emery but it seems that Martinez is now ready for a new challenge, with his eyes firmly set on the Champions League.
It’s no secret that Tottenham are in need of a reliable goalkeeper, with Hugo Lloris showing signs of decline in recent years. Martinez could be the perfect solution to this problem, with his shot-stopping abilities and commanding presence in the penalty area.
Of course, there will be competition for Martinez’s signature, with Manchester United and Chelsea also reportedly interested in the World Cup winner. The Argentinian shot-stopper is a solid option.
It’s clear that Villa will demand a high price for their prized asset, but Tottenham have the financial power to make it happen. However, they might need Champions League football, to convince Martinez.
Unai Emery does not seem to see eye to eye with the World Cup winner. The Spanish tactician prefers to have a goalkeeper who is good at playing out from the back and Martinez is not the best in the regard.
Lloris’ poor form has been a huge issue for Antonio Conte this season. The Frenchman has been nowhere near the levels expected of a top goalkeeper and Tottenham have an issue to sort out ahead of next season.
If Tottenham can convince him that they are the right fit, then Martinez could become a key player for the club for years to come. The club can also benefit from a presence like the Argentinian between the sticks.
