Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea target David Raya reveals Brentford contract offers
Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Manchester United have been linked with a move for Brentford goalkeeper David Raya.
The 27-year-old goalkeeper is on a contract that expires only in the summer of 2024. Apparently, he has turned down two offers to renew his current deal. The Bees goalkeeper told The Athletic (Subscription Required) [h/t Metro]:
‘I turned down two contracts, one last year and one this January. They weren’t the offers we were looking for. I can only say that. I want to focus on playing games and not think too much about my future.
“I have a contract here, so I’m willing to finish that, but you never know what’s going to happen in the summer. Maybe the club wants to sell, maybe not. Maybe I want to stay. I want to focus on football and see what happens.”
Spurs should make a move for Raya
Spurs would want to believe they stand a better chance at signing the Barcelona-born goalkeeper. After all, on paper, we are the team that would need an immediate No. 1.
Hugo Lloris is 36 and we would need a long-term successor for him. 34-year-old Fraser Forster will hardly be that man, leaving space for a new No. 1.
Chelsea have Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga for now, while Manchester United employ Dean Henderson and David de Gea. Raya rejecting two Brentford offers bodes well for us.
It could mean that he has his heart set on making a step up. Of course, there could be other intentions behind it but it would, at least, help us in our bid to sign him considering he will enter the final 12 months of his deal this summer.

This will take away a lot of power from Brentford, who could then be forced to consider a sale if they don’t want to lose the former Blackburn Rovers man for nothing in transfer fees.
