Chelsea join Tottenham Hotspur in the race to appoint Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi
Premier League rivals Chelsea have joined Tottenham Hotspur in the pursuit of appointing Brighton & Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi as head coach, according to Football Insider.
The Blues have ‘genuine interest’ in the Italian gaffer as a replacement for Graham Potter. At the moment, the Stamford Bridge side are struggling to play their best football under the English head coach.
Therefore, the West London club are eyeing De Zerbi, 43, as a potential candidate in case they need to appoint someone else in their dugout. However, Spurs are also eyeing the Italian as they look for possible replacements for Antonio Conte.
Chelsea sacked Thomas Tuchel during the initial stages of the current campaign and took Potter from the Seagulls. Subsequently, the Amex Stadium side appointed De Zerbi.
The English head coach has struggled to find his feet at the Stamford Bridge side. In 2023, the Blues have won just one match. The West London-based club have also struggled in front of goal.
In stark contrast, the Italian has enjoyed a decent start to life at Brighton. The Seagulls are playing an attractive and attacking brand of football and have gotten results against some of the biggest teams in the English top flight recently.
Chelsea are currently 10th in the league table. Behind the scenes, there have been discussions regarding Potter’s sacking. The next two fixtures are going to be crucial in deciding his future in the Blues dugout.
As for Tottenham, Conte’s current contract expires at the end of the season. Therefore, the former Inter Milan head coach’s future at the North London side is uncertain.

While the Italian has done a decent job at Spurs, defensively, we have not looked solid under him. If the 53-year-old were to leave, De Zerbi seems like a decent option to hire at Spurs.
