Cristian Stellini feels Tottenham Hotspur had enough without Harry Kane to beat Sheffield United
Tottenham Hotspur assistant manager Cristian Stellini feels the Lilywhites had enough in the attack without Harry Kane to beat Sheffield United in the FA Cup.
Spurs visited Bramall Lane on Wednesday (1 February) in the fifth round of the FA Cup. Iliman Ndiaye’s brilliant striker in the 79th minute gave the Blades a 1-0 win and knocked out the North London side from the competition.
Tottenham started with a front three of Lucas Moura, Richarlison and Son Heung-min. Unfortunately, the trio were unable to make a big enough impact and help us qualify to the quarter-finals.
Speaking after the loss via football.london, Stellini was adamant that Spurs had enough quality up top to get the job done against the Championship outfit.
“No it’s not a regret. We also have to look at the medium period and we have many games. Harry Kane played a lot, one time with fever and another with a problem.
“It’s not about Harry. We played with Lucas, Richarlison and Sonny. I think that should be good enough.”
The Italian has no regrets about keeping Kane on the bench and neither should he. With all due respect to Sheffield, we had enough star players on the pitch to get a result against them, even though we rested some important players.
The England international has led our line in the current campaign. He has been the only reliable outlet for the North London side this season, with most other forwards not contributing enough. The 29-year-old came on as a substitute in the 65th minute but was unable to get us the win.
Son has been underwhelming for the majority of this term. In the previous campaign, the South Korean was pivotal to our success. Unfortunately, in the 2022/23 campaign, the 30-year-old has struggled to find his feet.
Richarlison is another star who has not showcased the full extent of his talent at Tottenham yet. The 26-year-old has brought energy and tenacity to the attack. However, the Brazil international has failed to find the back of the net a lot.
As for Moura, he has fallen down the pecking order under Antonio Conte. The 30-year-old has not played much this season. However, the Brazilian has a ton of experience.
