Lucas Moura wants £8.8m sign-on fee to leave Tottenham Hotspur as free agent

Lucas Moura is all set to leave Tottenham Hotspur as a free agent this summer, and he wants a hefty signing-on fee to engineer a move as a free agent, as per Goal Brazil (h/t Daily Mail).

The former Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) star has been an important player at Spurs since he joined us in January 2018. No one can forget his contribution to our run to the 2019 UEFA Champions League final.

But time, injuries and competition has made him fall to virtually the bottom of the pecking order under manager Antonio Conte. He has played just 94 minutes of league minutes this season.

Now, he seems to be wanting £8.8million signing-on fee and agent’s commission spread across the duration of his contract with whichever new club that signs him. His former club Sao Paulo are unwilling to pay that amount.

A man in demand

He supposedly has offers from Italy, Qatar, MLS and the Premier League. Lucas also wants to stay in Europe to continue his career at the highest possible level that he can manage.

At the age of 30, Lucas isn’t that old and still has plenty that he can offer teams. The versatile Brazilian can play as a No. 10 and anywhere across the frontline.

However, he has evidently been of very little use to us. We now have Dejan Kulusevski, Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Richarlison that are definitely better than Lucas – as evidenced by their standing in Conte’s pecking order.

It remains to be seen if any club in Europe would be willing to take up Lucas’ demands to sign him. Sure, he can offer teams a lot and would cost nothing in transfer fees per se, but what he is demanding could be deemed a little too much for some teams.
