Antonio Conte names Tottenham Hotspur’s three top-four contenders this season including Chelsea
Antonio Conte has claimed that Chelsea are still Tottenham Hotspur’s competitor in the race for a top-four finish this season.
The former Chelsea and Juventus manager’s comments come after Spurs secured a 3-1 win against Nottingham Forest while the Blues beat Leicester City by the exact same scoreline on Saturday.
After the full-time whistle, Conte said (h/t Football.London):
“…Liverpool is a competitor in this race. Newcastle is a competitor but Newcastle is a different Newcastle to the past.
He added:
“They invest a lot of money and they have a strong team. See Chelsea and what happen and their position, but I don’t consider Chelsea outside because Chelsea has the possibility to win the last 11 or 12 games in a row because the squad is really, really strong.”
Liverpool lost 1-0 to AFC Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium right before Spurs kicked off their game against the Tricky Trees. This was a huge boost for us in the race, especially after our loss against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Liverpool’s win over Manchester United last weekend.
A nice little way from Conte to keep the pressure on Graham Potter
The Red Devils, alongside league-leaders Arsenal and chasers Manchester City are odds-on to make the top four this season. Spurs are currently fourth with 48 points from 25 games – just one point behind Manchester United.
The Old Trafford outfit, however, have two games in hand over us. Liverpool, who have a game in hand, trail us by six points while Newcastle United are seven points behind with an additional game in hand.
We still have Liverpool to face at Anfield but if we don’t slip up until late April before we face them, one would fancy us to make the top four. We also have league games pending against Manchester United and Newcastle United.

Chelsea, however, are a staggering 11 points behind us with one game in hand. While Conte is right in considering them a competitive side, it would take a massive winning run from the Blues and a huge capitulation from us to see them in the top four over us. This is an unthinkable situation for fans right now.
