Luis Enrique ‘open’ to holding talks with Tottenham Hotspur if Antonio Conte leaves
Former Spain national team head coach Luis Enrique is ‘open’ to holding talks with Tottenham Hotspur if the managerial position becomes vacant, according to The Times (Subscription Required).
The Italian manager is expected to leave Spurs at the end of the season. At the end of the campaign, the former Inter Milan gaffer’s contract will expire and it seems unlikely that it will be extended.
Enrique is eyeing a move to the Premier League. The Spaniard would be interested in making his way back to the dugout if the right opportunity arose.
During the 52-year-old’s playing career, he played for both Real Madrid and Barcelona. Subsequently, the ex-player turned into a manager and took charge of Roma and Celta Vigo before landing the Barcelona job in the summer of 2014.
With the Blaugrana, Enrique enjoyed a fruitful spell. In the 2014/15 season, the Spaniard ended up winning the treble with the La Liga giants, lifting the Champions League, La Liga and Copa del Rey titles.
In 2017, the gaffer ended up leaving Barcelona and landed the Spain job in 2018. He led La Furia Roja to the semi-finals of Euro 2020. However, after losing to Morocco in the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup, the 52-year-old left his post.
Conte was appointed in Tottenham’s dugout in the middle of the previous campaign. The Italian ended the season on a high note, helping us attain a top-four spot.
After a busy summer 2022 and a decent start to the campaign, Spurs have been underwhelming for some time now. However, we have still managed to be in the race for the Champions League position.
