Fabio Paratici is preparing transfer offer for Aston Villa star Emiliano Martinez
According to Gastón Edul (h/t Football. London), Tottenham Hotspur director Fabio Paratici is preparing a transfer offer for World Cup-winning Aston Villa star Emiliano Martinez as the club look to finalise their new goalie for next season.
Martinez played a key role in Argentina’s World Cup triumph in Qatar, and his performances in the tournament have not gone unnoticed by Tottenham’s hierarchy. The Spurs board has been on the lookout for a long-term replacement for current No. 1 Hugo Lloris.
The 30-year-old shot-stopper has had a somewhat unconventional career path, having spent most of his time as a backup goalkeeper. He spent eight years at Arsenal, but only made a handful of appearances for the Gunners before being sold to Aston Villa in 2020.
Martinez’s performances for Villa caught the attention of Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni, who gave him the nod as his first-choice goalkeeper for the World Cup. Martinez did not disappoint, playing a starring role in Argentina’s run to the title.
While Martinez may not be the most glamorous name on Tottenham’s shortlist, he certainly has the potential to be a long-term solution in the goalkeeping department. His performances in the Premier League and at the World Cup have shown that he has the quality to perform at the highest level.
Of course, Tottenham will face stiff competition if they are to sign Martinez. Aston Villa are under no pressure to sell their star goalkeeper, and they will be reluctant to let him go without a fight.
However, Spurs sporting director Fabio Paratici has a reputation as a shrewd negotiator, and he will be confident that he can get a deal done if he decides to pursue Martinez. The player might also want to make this step up in his career.
With Lloris now 36 years old, Spurs need to start planning for the future, and Martinez could be just the man they are looking for. How Aston Villa respond to Paratici’s potential offer remains to be seen.

The Villans would understand that the former Arsenal star may harbour ambitions that they cannot fulfill. Right now, there may not many top goalies on the market. If Emi Martinez is one of them, he wouldn’t make for a shabby addition.
