Ruud Gullit urges Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane to be selfish
Speaking to Voetbal International, former Chelsea and Dutch star Ruud Gullit has urged Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane to be selfish and do what it takes for him to win trophies in his career.
Gullit used his example to elaborate on how Kane must focus on personal trophies rather than staying loyal to Tottenham. The Dutch maestro explains how he left Feyenoord to move to PSV Eindhoven and then eventually to AC Milan.
The former Blues star claimed that although leaving the club might not really sit well with the fanbase, sometimes, tough decisions need to be taken if one desires to win trophies and accumulate accolades.
As good as Harry Kane has been for Tottenham for all these years, he is yet to win a single piece of silverware. The English legend is at the stage of his career when it is now or never for him to make the big move.
With Tottenham out of all competitions this season and still struggling to finish in the top four, this could realistically be the last season when Kane actually dons the famous white shirt and stays at N17.
Kane will want to try and do everything he can to win trophies. The lack of ambition at this club and the improper recruitment is something that will not please our star striker and he has enough clubs who would sign him.
Speaking about the situation, here is what Gullit had to say to Kane and his advice was for him to be ‘selfish’
“If I were him, I’d be selfish and say, ‘I’m leaving’. Many players are loyal to their club, but do not win anything. What good is that? As a footballer you want to win prizes, don’t you. When you are not good enough as a player, a club says: ‘Thank you for services rendered’. But if a club is not good enough, then as a player you have to seize the opportunity to win prizes elsewhere”
Only time will what the future holds for Kane. He has interest from many top clubs around the world. However, the Englishman might be tempted to stay at Tottenham for a bit longer should they make radical changes.
