Journo says he will be ‘shocked’ if Tottenham Hotspur don’t consider former Chelsea boss Graham Potter

Journalist Alasdair Gold has opined that he will be ‘shocked’ if Tottenham Hotspur don’t consider a move for former Chelsea manager Graham Potter in the summer.

Spurs were supposedly interested in the English tactician in 2021 when he was still at Brighton & Hove Albion. We ultimately brought in Antonio Conte while Potter became Chelsea’s manager in September 2022.

Seven months later, he was sacked by the Blues just a few days after Conte left Spurs by mutual consent on 26 March. Gold, while answering a question in a Q&A session on Football.London’s website, wrote:

“I would be shocked if Graham Potter doesn’t come into conversation again as he did in 2021, even after his tough time at Chelsea…”

Safe option?

He also name-dropped Julian Nagelsmann, Arne Slot and Mauricio Pochettino among the other usual suspects, but we’ll keep our focus here on Potter for now. Suppose you’re Graham Potter and you were sacked by Chelsea after a tumultuous time.

Make no mistake, the sacking was humiliating because it would have taken massive courage from Todd Boehly to remove Potter from the helm after shocking parting ways with Thomas Tuchel. It was basically admitting that he got his first major decision as club owner wrong.

Keeping this in mind, won’t Potter be over the moon if Spurs approach him? He should be, because it seems that another top club will take a shot at a manager who failed in the Premier League with Chelsea.

He did get them to the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals but he needed a second-leg Kai Havertz penalty to overturn the deficit against a team that lost Erling Haaland last summer. Potter could be a smart choice.

More Tottenham Hotspur News:

It will be banking on a manager who will have a point to prove. We would have options that are more qualified and more famous, but Potter, as he did with Brighton & Hove Albion, could work miracles at Spurs under the right condition, backing, and patience. It’s a chance we can take. Although it will be ‘make or break’ for both Spurs and Potter if the potential move doesn’t work.
