Leeds United want €50 million for Illan Meslier amidst Tottenham Hotspur interest
Premier League rivals Leeds United want €50 million to part ways with Illan Meslier amidst interest from Tottenham Hotspur, according to Football Insider via Spanish outlet Fichajes.
Spurs are one of the clubs with the most intrigue in the shot-stopper. At the moment, the North London side are looking for a successor to Hugo Lloris in between the sticks.
To that end, the 36-year-old’s compatriot is being eyed by the Lilywhites. However, in the English top flight, Chelsea also have the 23-year-old on their radar as the new number one.
But Leeds have set a high price on Meslier. One cannot fault them for doing so, considering the goalkeeper’s age and potential. But with the Peacocks currently fighting relegation, dropping into the Championship could lower the France U21 international’s price tag.
The West Yorkshire-based club have not been in the best of forms this season. They parted ways with Jesse Marsch recently and brought Javi Gracia to steer the club to safety.
Meslier made his way to Leeds in the summer of 2019. In the Peacocks’ first campaign back in the PL, the 23-year-old established himself as the number one under Marcelo Bielsa. Since then, the French national has thrived.
At Tottenham, Lloris has been the number one for over a decade now. Since his arrival in 2012 from Olympique Lyon, the 36-year-old has been pivotal for us.
However, in the last few years, the veteran shot-stopper’s performances have dipped. As backup at the moment, Spurs have summer signing Fraser Forster in their ranks providing cover.

Therefore, the North London side evidently need to plan for the future. Meslier has garnered a lot of experience in English football since signing for Leeds. The 23-year-old is also young and has the talent to improve further. But it remains to be seen whether he will succeed Lloris in the coming months.
