Hugo Lloris slams Tottenham Hotspur fans’ booing Davinson Sanchez vs Bournemouth
It was a pathetic night for Hugo Lloris and his Tottenham Hotspur teammates to see their team slump to a 3-2 defeat against AFC Bournemouth at home on April 15.
The Cherries were a team who were battling relegation before the game but are now six points clear of the drop. Spurs, meanwhile, have a top-four race to focus on, showing the gap between the two sides if it wasn’t already obvious before kick-off.
Ivan Perisic assisted Son Heung-min’s goal early in the first half to hand us the lead. A first goal for Matias Vina in nearly two years meant Bournemouth went into the break 2-1.
This was completely Pedro Porro’s fault, who lost the ball needlessly in our own half and helped Dominic Solanke play in Vina for the goal. The English striker scored his team’s second goal six minutes into the second half.
Pathetic from Spurs fans
Marcus Tavernier ran at Sanchez, whose touch of the ball fell straight into Solanke’s path. The former Liverpool and Chelsea man made no mistake, and fans blamed Sanchez for the goal alone.
They started booing him and cheered Cristian Stellini’s decision to replace him in the 58th minute. Speaking after the game, Lloris told beIN Sports that the booing had started long before Sanchez’s error for Bournemouth’s second goal, and began when he entered the pitch in the first half following Clement Lenglet’s injury (h/t Football.London):
“It started earlier, it’s when he came on the pitch. I’ve never seen this in my career. I feel really bad for Davinson. He’s a team-mate, he’s a friend and he’s been fighting for the club for many many years now, and it’s just sad. The story is sad for the club, for the fans, for the player. It’s something you don’t want to see in football.”
Arnaut Danjuma equalised a minute before the 90-minute mark courtesy of a long throw-in from Perisic but before Dango Ouattara completely left Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg for dead with a simple dribble when he scored the stoppage-time winner.

Many Spurs players made mistakes. Only Sanchez was targeted. It was pathetic for our fans to do that and Lloris is right to call them out in such a manner. Sanchez may not be in rhythm but he hasn’t been playing regularly and Bournemouth’s goal wasn’t his fault at all. No sensible person will think he intentionally touched the ball into Solanke’s path.
