AC Milan are set to reward Mike Maignan with a new offer to fend off interest from Tottenham Hotspur
According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, AC Milan are set to hand French goalkeeper Mike Maignan a new contract in a bid to put off the interest on the player from Tottenham Hotspur.
Spurs have been looking at potential replacements for captain Hugo Lloris, who is towards the latter stages of his career and a new no.1 is of important priority.
Maignan has been seen as one of the candidates due to his impressive performances in Serie A since joining AC Milan and is currently one of the top keepers in Europe.
Maignan has already been given the throne as LLoris’ successor in the French National team after the Spurs goalkeeper announced his retirement.
However, Spurs’ plan to make a similar shift as the French national team might not bear fruit with Milan keen to reward Maignan with an improved contract for his services.
It is another key target which looks out of reach now and the search for LLoris’ heir will continue and needs to be sorted out fast.
By next season, there needs to be an able No. 2 who can learn from and push Lloris for the starting spot and eventually take over.
It is very crucial for us to secure UEFA Champions League football for us to stand any chance of attracting premium talent, not to mention a world-class manager in the dugout.
