Tottenham Hotspur star Hugo Lloris gives worrying injury update after Newcastle United loss

Technically, Tottenham Hotspur played out a 1-1 draw against Newcastle United with Fraser Forster in goal.

But unfortunately, that isn’t how football works and Spurs would get absolutely nothing for a reassured performance in the second half against the Magpies. The small problem here was that Tottenham conceded just the five goals in the opening 21 minutes of the game…

It was a capitulation rarely seen at Spurs ever before. Newcastle United have been good this season but they still don’t boast a team which can do such damage to Tottenham be it at St. James’ Park.

To add to our problems, Hugo Lloris was substituted at half-time for Fraser Forster. The English goalkeeper has been deputising in goal ever since Lloris’ injury in our 1-0 win against Manchester City in early February.

Spurs suffer another Lloris injury blow

Lloris only recently returned to the lineup but could now be set for another spell on the sidelines. Speaking after his team’s embarrassing display against the Toons, the former Olympique Lyonnais goalkeeper confirmed his injury and told Sky Sports, via Metro:

“It doesn’t sound good. I think it’s a muscle injury, around the hip. I felt something on a long kick and it doesn’t sound good. But we will see tomorrow and in a few days after a scan.”

This is another reminder that Spurs have to start looking for a new goalkeeper to replace the 36-year-old. He isn’t quite as fit as he once used to be and regardless of that, Lloris seems to be on the decline.

Technically, he wasn’t directly at fault for any of the five first-half goals. Jacob Murphy’s two goals were very well-taken finishes and Joelinton’s sixth-minute strike was into an empty net – although Lloris could have done better not to be dribbled past that easily by the Brazilian.

Alexander Isak’s first goal was perhaps unsavable but the second goal, which nestled in Lloris’ far past, was hit from a tight angle and perhaps could have been saved. Easy to say for us now. Nevertheless, it seems that Forster could be in goal for us in the coming weeks.

The funny thing is, the 35-year-old has at times seemed like a much safer bet in goal.
