Tottenham Hotspur Transfer News: Emerson’s father says his son ‘fits a giant like Real Madrid’
Tottenham Hotspur right-back Emerson Royal’s father has surprisingly admitted that his son could leave the club soon and that he fits a team like Real Madrid.
Los Blancos could be on the lookout for a new right-back who can succeed the ageing Daniel Carvajal. They don’t have a quality full-back in their team who can be a long-term solution in that position.
Emerson was perhaps not needed at Barcelona which is why he was allowed to join Spurs. If he has made any progress during that time to earn a move to Real Madrid is highly questionable.
Here, he has seemed like a player who has a mistake in him, especially in defence. His father, Emerson Zulu, who is also his agent, seems to think that he is good enough to join a team like Real Madrid.
He said on the Charla Podcast (h/t Daily Mail):
“There is a great possibility that Emerson will leave Tottenham. We believe it’s time for him to take a bigger leap and to go to a team that fights for titles. I think he fits a giant like Real Madrid.”
Emerson Royal came out and paid Tottenham due respect, cancelling out his father’s comments. He said:
“Although he is entitled to his own opinion, I have never spoken to him about it and I have always made it clear that I am happy at Tottenham. As a professional athlete, I am proud to represent the team that believed in me and gave me the opportunity to showcase my skills.”
It was certainly a surprising admission from Emerson’s father considering things are going pretty okay for the Brazilian right-back here. He joined us in 2021 and still has a little over three years left on his contract (Transfermarkt).
Perhaps his father is just turning the attention of other clubs towards his son. It is also disrespectful for him to imply that Emerson has outgrown Spurs, as if we are a club that are a stepping stone for the 24-year-old.

We signed Pedro Porro from Sporting CP in January to raise competition down the right-hand side. If Emerson cannot compete with the Spaniard and hold down a position in our starting XI here, perhaps his father will have to reassess how good a player his son actually is.
