Manchester United start process of signing Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane
Manchester United are laying the foundation to sign Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane in the summer, as per the Telegraph (Subscription Required).
The 29-year-old is set to enter the final 14 months of his contract next month and there are growing expectations that he will not renew his deal. Amidst this, Man United have started the process of signing him this summer.
They are apparently taking the necessary steps to understand how to negotiate a deal with Daniel Levy. Manchester United making a serious offer will be a ‘nightmare’ for the Spurs chairman.
He will be faced with the dilemma of either cashing in on Kane this summer and using that money elsewhere, perhaps to replace the England international or strengthen other positions. Or, he could run the risk of losing Kane on a free transfer next year.
Losing Kane will confirm Spurs have failed this decade
With each passing year, Kane’s chances of leaving Tottenham for another big team could reduce. After all, Manchester City didn’t wait around for him after failing in Kane’s pursuit and ended up signing Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez last summer.
The 29-year-old is Tottenham Hotspur and England’s record goalscorer. His goal-scoring ability isn’t up for debate and with time, Kane has only added other elements to his game to become a more complete centre-forward.
He could be the final piece in Manchester United’s puzzle to finally challenge for the Premier League title. But for Spurs, this will be a hammer blow. To lose a club legend in this manner will be the biggest indicator that Spurs have failed magnanimously – that they could no longer present themselves as a competitive club for a world-class player like Kane.
It will set us back a lot. Finding a replacement for the Englishman won’t be easy and with time, our chances of playing in the UEFA Champions League next season seem to be vanishing. Hopefully, we hire a new manager who has the personality and character to be able to convince Kane to stay in N17 and trust his/her project here.

The more you think about it, the more it makes sense for Kane to switch to Manchester United – and that is an incredibly sad thought as a Spurs fan. The Red Devils have stability with Erik ten Hag as manager and will allow Kane to stay in England to break Alan Shearer’s Premier League goals record.
They could also offer him UCL football and the chance to replace Cristiano Ronaldo up front as the club’s main No. 9. Levy will have to pull off a masterclass to keep Kane at Spurs beyond the summer and hopefully, even 2024.
