Fabrizio Romano: Tottenham Hotspur have spoken to Burnley boss Vincent Kompany
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Burnley manager Vincent Kompany.
The club appointed Cristian Stellini as their interim manager after Antonio Conte left his post in March. Spurs sacked Stellini after our 6-1 league defeat against Newcastle United, putting Ryan Mason in charge on a temporary basis.
Now, it seems that Spurs are continuing their process of finding a new permanent head coach. Kompany, 37, who has guided Burnley to promotion in next season’s Premier League, has been touted as an option.
Romano said on his YouTube channel:
“For sure Vincent Kompany is a coach they [Tottenham Hotspur] have on the list. They spoke to Vincent Kompany. From what I understand there was a conversation with Tottenham and Kompany.”
Kompany is yet to earn his stripes in Europe’s top five leagues. He has a bit of experience managing RSC Anderlecht and while his achievement with Burnley is very, very impressive, it can’t be denied that the Clarets had a very good team to aid the Belgian tactician.
They have 92 points from 43 matches and are on course to win the Championship. Considering they have a great team, it wouldn’t have been a surprise had they achieved similar numbers under another manager.
That being said, Kompany is surely one to watch out for. But for us, he may not be the best hire on paper. This is an appointment which may not fill the fans and maybe even the players with full confidence given his lack of experience.

We are better off hiring a new manager who has top-flight experience and excels at commanding the dressing room along with developing young players. Kompany could be a smart option to consider in the future if he does well in the Premier League with Burnley.
