Chelsea-bound Mauricio Pochettino “disappointed” with Tottenham Hotspur
Mauricio Pochettino, who is set to be appointed manager of Premier League rivals Chelsea, was “disappointed” at not being approached by Tottenham Hotspur for the managerial role.
Antonio Conte and Cristian Stellini have both parted ways with the North London side in recent weeks. Ryan Mason is currently in charge of the team on an interim basis. As a result, Spurs are looking for a new head coach.
However, speaking on talkSPORT (h/t Evening Standard), Alan Brazil, former Tottenham forward and a close confidant of Pochettino, revealed that the Argentine was waiting on a call from the Lilywhites but did not receive it.
“I really like the guy. I think he’s a top, top bloke but one thing I do know he was so disappointed that Spurs didn’t even contact him.
“I spoke to Poch a few weeks ago, and he was sitting by the phone almost waiting for Spurs to come and call him.”
It does not make sense. Why would Spurs not attempt to bring back one of their most successful managers in recent times? If what has been said is true, then there has been an oversight from Daniel Levy and Co.
The former Paris Saint-Germain manager had a fruitful spell during his reign in the North London side’s dugout. With the 51-year-old, we were consistently getting into the top four.
Pochettino also took us to the Champions League final in the 2018/19 season. However, the Argentine’s stint subsequently came to an end after a poor start to the 2019/20 campaign.
Since then, Tottenham have had the likes of Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte in charge of the team. The two have the pedigree of being world-class gaffers with the experience of winning silverware.
However, neither of them were able to end Spurs’ trophy drought. It has now been 14 years since we have seen our team lift a title. The current situation is also unacceptable with no permanent manager in charge.

Pochettino is an icon at the North London side and we have seemingly let him go to our London rivals Chelsea. It remains to be seen who Levy thinks is fit to take charge of the Lilywhites going forward.
