Mauricio Pochettino harboured Tottenham Hotspur dream ahead of Chelsea negotiations
Talking to talkSPORT (h/t The Evening Standard), Alan Brazil has revealed that Mauricio Pochettino was eager to be contacted by Tottenham Hotspur ahead of entering negotiations to become the new Chelsea manager.
The Argentine is arguably our best manager in the Premier League era and more than once took us to within touching distance of glory. Unfortunately, it was not to be and his reign came to a rather bitter end.
Having enjoyed a spell at Paris Saint-Germain, Pochettino is now unattached. Tottenham too are on the search for a new manager and on paper the marriage appears to be made in heaven.
Or so it would appear only for Tottenham to ghost their former favourite. Brazil, who is apparently the Argentine’s close friend, revealed that Pochettino was eagerly waiting for a call from north London that never came.
“I spoke to Poch a few weeks ago, and he was sitting by the phone almost waiting for Spurs to come and call him.”
The Argentine appears to have had enough as he is now engaged in talks to take over at Stamford Bridge. Brazil confirmed the same stating that Pochettino’s return to the Premier League could be nigh.
“He wants a bit of the Premier [League] again, and it looks as if he could be on his way to Chelsea.”
Pochettino is widely admired by the Spurs faithful and they surely would have on board regarding a potential return. Should he go to Chelsea, it will be difficult to imagine him succeeding at an arch-rival.
Pochettino employs a fine brand of football that is attacking-oriented. He knows how to get the best out of limited resources and could take Chelsea to the next level with Todd Boehly’s backing. Time will tell if Daniel Levy and co will come to regret not bringing back the Argentine.

Not just that, but it will also increase the pressure on the manager. Any little slump on the way can get fans to think how things could have been different had Poch returned to N17.
