Frank McAvennie baffled by Tottenham honcho Daniel Levy’s approach to sacking Antonio Conte

According to Football Insider 247, former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie was baffled by Daniel Levy’s decision to consult Tottenham players before formalizing the exit of Antonio Conte.

Conte was sacked after a poor run of form that saw Tottenham eliminated from both the Champions League and the FA Cup. Performances in the Premier League did not inspire much confidence either.

In his fiery post-match press conference after a 3-3 draw against Southampton, Conte took aim at the club and players, leading to his eventual dismissal. Cristian Stellini took over, but was also relieved of his duties after failing to turn the club’s fortunes around.

Ryan Mason was appointed interim manager until the end of the season. However, with Tottenham currently sitting sixth in the Premier League and nine points behind Manchester United in the final Champions League spot, a lot of work needs to be done.

Despite this uncertainty, McAvennie was shocked to learn that Levy had consulted Tottenham players, including Eric Dier, about the exit of the manager.

“I heard something that baffled me. The chairman Daniel Levy spoke to a consortium of players, people like Eric Dier, about sacking the manager”

McAvennie’s comments reflect the confusion and frustration felt by many Tottenham fans. The club’s recent managerial decisions have been questionable, to say the least. This is yet another instance of the same.

Mason is a talented coach, but he lacks the experience necessary to manage a club of Tottenham’s stature. If the club is serious about competing for top honours, they need to appoint a proven manager who can build a winning team.
