Report: Tottenham Hotspur want to sign Wolves star regardless of who becomes new manager

Graeme Bailey admits surprise in Tottenham not pushing for Max Kilman this summer.

Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur want Wolves centre-back Max Kilman

Wolverhampton Wanderers centre-back Max Kilman is apparently of interest to Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur.

That is according to John Cross of the Mirror, who says that the Lilywhites view Kilman as a necessary signing to increase the quality and depth in their defence – regardless of what manager they appoint next.

It’s completely normal for clubs to wait around for their new manager to join and make calls regarding transfer business. After all, they are the ones who have to manage and train the players on a daily basis.

Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique have been touted as two potential permanent successors for Antonio Conte, who left by mutual consent in March. Regardless of who joins, Spurs are keen on Kilman.

A smart signing?

The 25-year-old is an example of a player making his way to the top after being in the shadows for so long. The former Maidenhead and Marlow defender only joined Wolves in the summer of 2018.

It has been a sensational rise since then. The English defender has featured in 38 games this season and has shown time and again that he can hold his own in the Premier League.

If the finances make sense, then this is a signing worth making. It will also be a big step up for Kilman, who could join Spurs and play in European football for a ‘big six’ club. His deal at the Molineux, however, only expires in June 2026 (Transfermarkt).

More Tottenham Hotspur News:

Japhet Tannganga, Davinson Sanchez and Joe Rodon just don’t seem good enough for our starting XI on a regular basis if we harbour dreams of challenging for the title. Will Kilman be an upgrade on them? Only time will tell. Even if we do sign him, Spurs shouldn’t stop themselves from signing another centre-back who has more experience, more quality and can be a leader at the back – like a Virgil van Dijk or Giorgio Chiellini.
